The war was over. Finished. Done. And the victor had been named. Harry Potter emerged triumphantly from the final battleground, nothing left of his opponent save for a cloud of dust and memories that were stricken with a vivid flash of red. Voldemort was dead. Cries of victory rang forth from all corners of the Wizarding World, tears of joy for the end to what seemed to be an everlasting war. Peace was beginning to familiarize itself with a population of hopefuls.

How did it come to this? The summer after the famous trio's sixth year left no time to spare. With Dumbledore's death, a new willpower and determination struck our hero and there was no more hesitation in completing the task that was bestowed upon him: Find and destroy the remaining Horcruxes. Two down, five to go. With the diary and the ring already out of the picture, the trio set their sights on the next, the locket. Found in Grimmauld place, it was the next to be destroyed, followed by Hufflepuff's cup that was determined (thanks to assistance from one of Hepzibah Smith's relatives, Zacharias,) was kept as a family heirloom. However, with three more Horcruxes remaining as the middle of July approached, confidence began to waver. It wasn't until an unexpected source turned out to be the key to the trio's future successes. Severus Snape betrayed the Dark Lord and in doing so, revealed not only one, but two of the desperately sought-after Horcruxes. One, the diadem of Rowena Ravenclaw and the other, a pair of spectacles belonging to Tom Riddle's mother. Once more, Harry's determination was restored. One left. And the Boy Who Lived had a good idea of what it could be. Or who, rather.

Who did Voldemort keep around him at all times? Who did the Dark Lord instruct to do a good portion of his bidding with a forked tongue and red eyes? Nagini. Voldemort's anger at Harry's progress and the work that the boy with the famous scar has completed all came to a head at the final battle. It would all end where it all began: Hogwart's. The ones who stood behind Harry never demonstrated their devotion as much as the night of Voldemort's end. Fighting valiantly and with one goal in mind - to give their hero his chance - those who fought for the greater good succeeded, some, regretfully losing their lives for the cause. Seizing the opportunity when it arose, Harry destroyed Nagini, what seemed to be the final solution to the problem that had been haunting him for a decade, with one fell swoop. With the death of the snake, onlookers watched as the Dark Lord crumpled before them at the hand of Harry Potter, weakened with the loss of his separated soul. One utterance of one final spell and Voldemort was no more. It was completed.

But what if that wasn't what really happened? What if everything that night had been staged, a lie? What if it was all an elaborate plan that had been in the works for months in the Dark Lord's quarters? What if his death was a mere illusion and that what the trio had been sure of as the final Horcrux and the last piece in the puzzle was a decoy that allowed Voldemort his chance to hide in the shadows until he could strike again without warning? Little does the Wizarding World know that such was exactly the case. While Hogwart's is reopening and the victory cries are still loud in the streets, Voldemort is building up his army and planning a demise that will once and for all destroy Harry Potter. And nobody has any idea.
